ABOUT THE GERMAN SHEPHERD

The German Shepherd is a highly intelligent dog. Combined with their strength and agility, this makes the breed desirable as police, guard and search and rescue dogs as they are able to quickly learn various tasks and interpret instructions. GSDs are very active dogs and are marked by a willingness to learn and an eagerness to please and to have a purpose. German Shepherds make wonderful family companions.  These dogs are very loyal to their owner and family and bond well with children and other animals that they are familiar with. Their intelligence makes them easy to train, although they can become over-protective of their family and territory if not socialized properly.

Working Line

The working line German Shepherd dog has been engineered to work with humans.  They have the ability to excel in any kind of task under stressful situations.  Though they may not have that "head turning beauty" as their showline counterparts, a true working lines beauty is based on it's utility.  These dogs make great family companions, though some may require and experience handler/trainer.  Successful working dogs have a stable temperament with a great disposition and know how to relax.  They can also perform miracles in obedience.  Working dogs can be from Czech, East German or DDR Lines.

West German Showline

The West German Show Line is a strikingly beautiful and functional dog.  They tend to be larger than working line dogs, with more vibrant color.  They make very good family companions & protectors, but still require a high level of exercise, training and social interaction. West German Show Lines are predominantly black & red. They posesses a majestic bouncey trot, with maximum ground coverage by delivering high degree of hind leg propulsion with extensive reach, thus their confirmation with slightly roached backs.

American Showline

Although very popularity in the North America, the North American Show Line German Shepherd line has not been able to flourish beyond its area.  Rear angulation has compromised the breed’s working ability, jumping, and speed. Hip tests for this GSD type usually yield good results. This German Shepherd line usually displays ” flying trot”. They usually exhibit good temperament and excel in herding.
